Superman has brought himself to the world of the Vanished.  He meets Clark Kent there and realizes that he should trust him once again with a secret.  He then goes and embraces Lois, as the two share a moment that only lovers can.  Clark Kent, meanwhile is ambushed and brutally beaten by a creature that answers to a man known only as the General.
